Colin Hutchinson was working as an HGV driver in 2007, when a fork lift truck ran over his feet and up his legs.
The damage to his legs was terrible. 10 months and many operations later, he is only just taking the first steps on the road to walking again. The surgeons say that without his Buckler safety boots, Colin’s feet - and his hopes of walking again - would have been crushed beyond repair.
As it was, the boot uppers were twisted but remained intact, and Colin’s feet were completely unscathed.
Colin was kind enough to write and thank us for saving his feet. In return for allowing us to share his story, we will be making a donation to the hospital that has helped him on the road to recovery, and of course, replacing his trusty B1150 boots with a new pair.
We look forward to the day when Colin will be wearing them to work again.
Why Colin's feet survived
Colin’s pair of Buckler B1150 boots feature a steel toecap, capable of protecting an impact of 20kg in weight falling on to the toes from a height of 10.2 metres, or the compression protection of approximately 1.5 tonnes resting on the toe area.
However, Buckler boots are Goodyear Welted, an extremely robust method of manufacture where a sewn welt secures the upper to the inner sole. This means that when the steel toecap is compressed it won’t break through the sole and crush the toes of the wearer.
