EN Certificates
You will have seen recent press reports regarding a decision by an international toy company to withdraw 18m toys which did not comply with European (EN) and other international safety standards.
Subsequent press reports point to a ‘widespread use’ of fraudulent EN certificates for a variety of commodities.
It is difficult to say to what extent, if any, this practice exists in the safety footwear sector, but there have been recent stories of safety footwear having been withdrawn from the market for having components which did not pass the testing procedure despite carrying EN certification labels.
All this makes it absolutely imperative that companies selling safety footwear to users within the EC can satisfy themselves as to the authenticity and ownership of the certificates.
